SW KS

After spending all weekend on the road and returning really late Sunday night, I had planned on blowing the day off as I had to work, not to mention I was a little tired. However between the combination of an incomplete computer installation at work (hard to get much done at the office w/o computers) and the setup looking more and more favorable, I ended up on the road shortly after noon for SW KS. On the way I became suspicious of my target and started to question if SC NE would not be a better target, and despite the fact that storms did develop and produce in SC NE, initiation occurred first in SW KS, so that is where I ended up. I intercepted the storm somewhere JUST NE of Dodge City. At that time I had race to beat the core down hwy 283, it was a close call and I spent about a ¼ of a mile in Golf Balls.

View looking West from Hwy 283, Storm looked ok but shortly after this picture it gusted out...

By the Time the storm reached Bellefont, while still struggling with outflow, it became apparent this thing was turning into a beast.

By the Time the storm reached just SW of Kinsley, the meso had strengthend...

Produced a rather big, but very very weak tornado

I continued East with the Storm, admist tons of gustnadoes and intense RFD. As the storm continued East it produced a big Rain Wrapped Tornado just to my NW, from my vantage point there was to much Dust wrapped up in the meso to be able to see anything under it. I did have a close call as I drove East down a dirt road and a huge cottonwood tree fell blocking my path. As I got out of the car to figure out how to get out, another gustnado hit the area and took down another tree both behind as well as right in front of me.

Must See Video!

Just some of the scenes on the way home...
