OK/TX Chase

April 25th

Made the trip down leaving Beatrice Saturday morning, I was joined by Sean and Katie McMullen. We originally left with plans of just getting to NW OK, and along the way we fine tuned our target and ended up in Shamrock TX, there we met up with fellow chasers Jeff Pitrowski, Terry Schenk, Brian Stertz and Rich and Ryan Theis. Shortly after arriving in Shamrock, a cell began to fire to our North, our now 3 car caravan watched it as it struggled in deciding how to deal with the boundary on which it went up. It seemed torn between becoming a legit surface based right mover, or a POS CF hailer. We tracked the storm ENE for a while, before becoming fed up with its failed attempts. From there we dropped South to I-40 (near Elk City) to intercept new supercells that were forming to our SW. Two supercells at this point looked good on radar, indicating at least Baseball sized hail. Jeff and Terry droped to the Southern storm, while we initially targeted the first storm, after watching it for awhile we too dropped just a few miles South to the next storm (a nice mothership supercell), we followed it for a while after sunset before calling it a day and enjoying dinner in Elk City.

Storm looked ok here, though it never really took off, shortly after this shot the cell split.

This is the second cell we intercepted, Just SW of Elk City; lots of Softball sized hail was falling in that core.

Same storm as above, but for the first time some scud attached under the Rain Free Base and formed a ragged wall Cloud.

Same storm, it was at this point we left it for the storm to the South.

This second storm, just a few miles to our SW had a Huge mothership type meso.

After watching that storm occluded and cycle without producing a tornado, right as the Sunset we again dropped SW to the next cell coming NE. All these were after dark...
