Beatrice Nebraska Tornado

4/15/06

Started out the day in the Nebraska City area not sure if we would end up heading back West or drop south into North-East Kansas. After looking over data in Nebraska city we noticed CU begining to become aggitated to our West, so Jeff and Kathryn Piotrowski, as well as Sean and Katie and myself began to head West. About the time we hit Auburn Ne, stroms were begining to form West of Beatrice so we reaced to Beatrice where we quicly fueld up and then droped South on hwy 77.

This is as we were filling up with gas in Beatrice, quite the anvil at this point. View is to the East and look at the flags we had East winds screaming.

This is as we were headed South out of Beatrice. This was our first view of the updraft base, seeing it and remembering the East winds in town I knew we were in bussiness.

Shot of the Meso and assoiciated wall cloud. At this point the storm began to really look impressive, at the time of this shot XM displayed the storms first shear marker 92mph

The next two pictures are of the amazing wall cloud.

Getting closer to us and to tornadoing

First touchdown of the day, note the small debirs plume on the ground.

Another shot of the strengthining tornado, note the dust to the left of the tornado from a really strong RFD.

Still strengthening.

Funnel now begining to condense.

For a while thought maybe we would have two tornaodes, the large funnel looking thing pointing to the right was not a funnel but the small little rope pointing to the left was.

Shot of the approaching debris cloud.

At this point we decided to take off.

Just as the tornado really was getting large it began to wrap in rain.
