Car Setup
March 6th
I've been able to take advantage of the nice weather, and get things ready for chase season. These are just some photos of the setup in this years chase vehicle. I have the laptop mount, ham radio and antenna and my inverter all mounted and connected to the battery, and I did not drill ONE whole in the vehicle. This setup gives me everything I need; with the laptop I have GPS and mobile internet anywhere in the US, the Ham radio provides me a solid communication method. The only thing missing is my window/dash cam mount. My goal was to make the setup as simplistic and make the car look as “normal” as possible; unlike many chasers, who seem to enjoy the attention they can draw to themselves through their vehicle with stickers, flashing lights, strobes, and whatever "look at me I'm important" crap they can come up with, I prefer to chase incognito, the less I am noticed the better. I think I accomplished my goals with this install; it provides me everything I need in a convenient east to access manner, but yet the car can easily be converted to its stock form.
The Laptop Mount is adjustable, it telescopes up and down, and I can also adjust it more to face the driver or square it up with the passenger.
From the drivers side, I have easy access to the radio.
Everything hooked up here, including the mouse and GPS in the windshield,
The Laptop mount easily removes, as does the inverter, however just removing the mount returns things pretty much to normal. Everything is wired here including the antenna, this is the only spot in the interior of the car you see wires, they run from here to the battery without being seen, and the antenna wire runs to the trunk without being seen.
The Magnet Mount antenna base slips between the trunk lid and the back window when the trunk is open, it is then mounted on the trunk lid.
Under the hood. The Ham radio has in-line fuses, as does the inverter.
As long as I can avoid flats I should be good to go. <10,000 miles and I already have had 4 flats, just got this one fixed...
Optional Fog lights provide for excellent night vision on wet roads.
