Jan 12th Mini Ground Blizzard
It’s amazing how crazy things can get with a mere 1-2” of snow on the ground when 50-60mph winds blow. There were numerous accidents in the area, I saw numerous cars in the ditch, a couple jack-knifed semis, and there was even a 27 car pileup just outside of Fremont. While photos and videos don’t really do blizzards justice, the following attempts to portray the conditions…
While I was running some errands today I couldn’t help but notice the black snow in ditches on the East side of fields. The thing was it was only apparent by fields that had been disced. The following pictures are a perfect example of why no-till agriculture is preached, just think this goes on all the time (just noticeable now due to the contrast with the snow) it’s actually probably a lot worse during other times of the year, given the soil is pretty frozen now.
The following pictures are on the East and South East side of the field, the fields were plowed turning over and exposing the soil.
These pictures were too taken on the East side of a field (in fact this is exactly 3/4 mile South of the last pictures) same soil makeup same exposure to wind, only difference this ground is farmed "No-Till" quite the difference...
